Mission Statement

The ESL/Bilingual and World Languages department is committed to providing all students with meaningful learning experiences that promote language development and cultural appreciation within an environment that privileges academic excellence. For English as a Second Language and bilingual students, the goal is to prepare students for life-long success by facilitating English fluency via rich content based learning. We privilege student-centered cognitive academic work, while recognizing the value of our students' diverse backgrounds to the language development process. For our World Language students, the goal is to foster an appreciation for language learning that will ultimately promote bi-literacy and critical thinking skills in a second language.
