What is Drop-in?
A comprehensive youth services programs for Hackensack High School students and their families. The program is a joint effort between Hackensack High School and Hackensack University Medical Center 's Institute for Behavioral Health Services' Child Adolescent Section. Drop-in offers “one-stop shopping” for teenagers.
Services include:
Career exploration and job placement
Supportive and family counseling
Health promotion programs
Referral to health and social services
Drop-out prevention
Recreation and life exploration activities
Tutoring services
Violence prevention and conflict management programs
Substance abuse counseling and referral
Who can Drop-In?
All HHS Students (grades 9-12). Parental consent is required for all Drop-In Services. HHS staff and students' parents are always welcome.
When and where can I Drop-in?
The drop-in center is located in Room 161 at HHS and is open Monday through Friday, 7:30 am to 4:30 pm when school is in session. Evening and weekend hours are available by appointment. Drop in is open 12 months a year.
How much does drop in cost?
Nothing! Basic services are provided free of charge to HHS students and their families
Who do I see when I drop in?
Drop in is staffed by a team of counselors who have expertise in working with teenagers and their families.
Who I drop in if I'm worried about a friend or a family member?
Yes. It's often helpful to talk about your concerns with an objective counselor. We help students deal with problems by listening, making issues more clear, and offering support and assistance. If necessary, a counselor with help a student or parents contact an appropriate agency.
Will what I say to drop in staff be confidential?
Drop-in staff will not disclose information to anyone without the consent of the person who gave it, except in emergency situations.
Can drop in help me get a job?
The employment counselor is available to help you find job opportunities and learn career preparation skills. Local businesses are also encouraged to contact drop in when looking for student employees.
Can a parent drop in?
Parents of HHS students can visit or call drop in at any time. If there is something that needs to be discussed with a counselor, it's best to make an appointment.
Can drop in help me improve my grades?
Our tutoring coordinator can provide students with tutors to assist them with their academic needs. Students are community volunteers are also encouraged to contact drop in to serve as tutors.
